Academic Programs

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) is the first school in the country devoted exclusively to graduate programs in health informatics, with one of the country's most comprehensive programs in biomedical informatics. The school is recognized nationally and internationally for its commitment to collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches to research, education and entrepreneurship.

Health care will increasingly be a cooperative interaction among the health disciplines. The result will be a need for health practitioners to better understand the technology, data, information, knowledge, assumptions and decision making of others as they attempt to design, provide and evaluate health care in the 21st century. SBMI strives to educate the next generation of leaders who will improve patient safety and quality of care in health care via informatics tools, solutions and research.
