MedEx

INTRODUCTION

We introduced the open source Java implementation of MedEx, an existing high-performance medication information extraction system, based on the Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA) framework

The MedEx-UIMA system consists of two main components:

• An information extraction module, which extracts medication related fields from clinical text; and

• A standardization module that encodes drug name/dose/form information into RxCUIs
