UTHealth's Riggs named chief of OB/GYN Service at LBJ Hospital

HOUSTON – (March 31, 2014) – John Riggs, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School, will be chief of service for obstetrics and gynecology at Harris Health System’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital on May 1.

“I know John will be a great leader for our service at the hospital due to his administrative expertise and experience within UTHealth and the Harris Health System,” said Sean Blackwell, M.D., associate professor and chair of the department. “He is a perfect fit for the role due to his personality, communication style, work ethic and clinical skills.”

Riggs, a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists who is also board-certified in clinical informatics, has been with UTHealth since 1990. He graduated from the UTHealth Medical School and received a master’s degree from UTHealth’s School of Biomedical Informatics. He is also chief medical informatics officer for Harris Health System.

Riggs will also serve as vice-chair of the department.
