UTHealth commencement ceremonies begin May 4

HOUSTON – (April 7, 2017) –  University leaders and renowned health professionals will address students, faculty, staff and guests when the six professional schools of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) hold 2017 commencement ceremonies, graduating more than 1,100 students. This year’s speakers include Benjamin K. Chu, M.D., president & CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System and Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams, Ph.D., R.N., Acting United States Surgeon General. Detailed information on each school’s commencement ceremony is listed below:

UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics

When: 4 p.m., Thursday, May 4

Where: Cooley Center, 7440 Cambridge Street

Commencement Speaker: Benjamin K. Chu, M.D., M.P.H., president & CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System

 

UTHealth School of Nursing

When: 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 9

Where: George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas

Commencement Speaker: Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams, Ph.D., R.N., Acting United States Surgeon General

 

UTHealth School of Public Health

When: 2 p.m., Friday, May 12

Where: NRG Center, 8400 Kirby Drive

Commencement Speaker: Umair A. Shah, M.D., M.P.H., executive director for Harris County Public Health (HCPH)

 

UTHealth School of Dentistry

When: 10 a.m., Thursday, May 18

Where: George R. Brown Convention Center, Assembly Theater, Level 3, 1001 Avenida de las Americas

Commencement Speaker: Leo E. Rouse, D.D.S., dean emeritus of Howard University’s College of Dentistry

 

McGovern Medical School at UTHealth

When: 4 p.m., Thursday, May 18

Where: George R. Brown Convention Center, Assembly Hall, 1001 Avenida de las Americas

Commencement Speaker: Jennifer L. Swails, M.D., assistant professor and associate program director of the internal medicine residency program

 

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

When: 10 a.m., Saturday, May 20

Where: Rice University, Shepherd School of Music, Alice Pratt Brown Hall, 6100 Main Street

Commencement Speaker: Randy W. Schekman, Ph.D., professor and Nobel Laureate
at University of California, Berkeley
