The Westin Houston Medical Center
1709 Dryden Road
Houston, TX 77030

Important Announcement…

To minimize the potential transmission of COVID-19, we are postponing the April 23rd-24th 2020 DeepTexas Medical AI Symposium to a later date. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

If you have a role in healthcare or a related industry—or plan to—or if you’re simply curious about what Artificial Intelligence (AI) can do in medicine today and in the future, please join us for The 2020 DeepTexas Medical AI Symposium!

Why AI? “AI is more profound than fire...”

According to Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, “AI is one of the most profound things we’re working on as humanity. It’s more profound than fire or electricity”. We are in the throes of a fundamental economic and societal transformation. The Agricultural Revolution that took place around 10,000 BC liberated people from food insecurity via farming; the Industrial Revolution that commenced 200 years ago began to free people from grueling physical labor through machines; and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Revolution occurring now is liberating people from cognitive labor through powerful computing, universal connectivity, and massive data.

Why medical AI? “AI is to medicine today what the X-ray was to medicine a century ago, and much more.”

AI has been disrupting and changing many industries, including information access, communication, retail, manufacturing, agriculture, entertainment, travel, finance, and education. The seismic tremor of the AI Revolution is just beginning to impact the largest industry in the U.S., which accounts for nearly one-fifth of its GDP: Healthcare. With virtually unlimited potential, medical AI is rapidly evolving to produce many advanced clinical applications.

In “AI is to Medicine Today What the X-ray was to Medicine a Century Ago, and Much More…” Jiajie Zhang, UTHealth, recently noted: “Just as the X-ray machine invented more than a century ago enables doctors to see images of structures inside the human body, AI allows physicians to not only see, but predict, previously unidentified patterns within medical and biological data that can inform individualized disease prevention and care, as well as biomedical discovery.”

What’s next? The 2020 DeepTexas Medical AI Symposium

On April 23-24th, some of the best minds and most prominent thought leaders in technology and medicine will be assembled at The 2020 DeepTexas Medical AI Symposium to discuss the current state of medical AI and consider the possibilities and plan for future applications in clinical care and disease prevention.

Keynote speakers for the symposium will include Peter Szolovits, PhD, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at MIT and member of the National Academy of Medicine; John M. Zerwas, MD, Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, The University of Texas System; Tina Moen, PharmD, Senior Deputy Chief Health Officer and Chief Pharmacy Officer, IBM Watson Health; and Lisa McFerrin, PhD, Bioinformatician, Amazon Web Services.

AI researchers and clinicians at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), UT Austin Dell Medical School, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, UT Southwestern Medical Center, UTMB, Rice University, University of Houston, Texas A&M University, Houston Methodist Hospital, and Baylor College of Medicine will showcase their current medical AI applications and discuss the grand clinical challenges that lie ahead for AI.

Industry partners, including IBM Watson Health, Google, Amazon, Cerner Corporation, Nutanix, and Melax Technologies, Inc. will feature their medical AI products and solutions.

CIOs, CMOs, CMIOs, and other IT and physician executives from UTHealth, UT Physicians, Memorial Hermann Health System, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, HCA Houston Healthcare, Texas Children’s Hospital, and Harris Health System will discuss the challenges and opportunities in implementing medical AI in clinical settings.

In addition, local investment banking firms, start-up incubators, and business school leaders from Healthcare Growth Partners, Mercury Fund, TMCx, and University of Houston College of Business will present the business side of medical AI.

Please join us for The 2020 DeepTexas Medical AI Symposium as we embark upon an era during which we will fully unleash the transformative power of AI in medicine!

ABOUT UTHEALTH SCHOOL OF BIOMEDICAL INFORMATICS…

Established in 1972 by the University of Texas Board of Regents, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is a comprehensive health science university that is home to six schools located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. The UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) is at the vanguard of the medical AI revolution in the United States. From its inception in 1997, SBMI has grown into one of the largest biomedical informatics academic programs in the world and the only free-standing school of its kind in America. Currently, it features more than 52 regular faculty, more than 54 adjunct faculty, and 300+ graduate students. Because of its exceptional faculty, SBMI leads in research dollars and high-impact journal publications. Moreover, SBMI’s alumni, adjunct faculty, and advisory council are comprised of well-respected, highly placed academic and industry partners.
