Happy holidays to everyone in the SBMI Community. We hope everyone enjoys a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season.

The university will be closed Dec. 26, 2022. SBMI will be open on Dec. 27 - 30 with limited hours and limited staff so please email [email protected] if you need any assistance during those days. The university will also be closed on Jan. 2, 2023 with regular business hours resuming on Jan. 3, 2022.

SBMI hosted the fall poster session on Dec. 12. Thank you to the students that participated, faculty who served as judges, and staff who handled event facilitation.

  • PhD Student Tanjida Kabir - An Automated MRI Analysis Tool to Measure the Tumor Volume and Assess the Treatment Response for Glioblastoma
  • MS Student Khush Patel - Interpretable Machine Learning Approach To Predict Discharge Functional Independence Measure (FIM) Scores For Stroke Rehabilitation

As dual winners, both students earned the Paul C. Boyle Award for Excellence in Research for this semester.

  • Alumna Angie Hayes, DHI, ’22, MS ’19

  • Two-time Alumna Angie Hayes, DHI, ’22, MS ’19 recently earned two new grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) via the National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention (NCFRP). The first grant, for disaster related child fatality review, is worth $30,000. Her second grant is worth $50,000 and focuses on sudden unexpected infant death review. In addition to the two new grants, Angie was awarded a CDC grant over the summer to use NLP for an adolescent suicide review to find patterns for intervention.

Staff and Faculty Excellence Award Luncheon

The new app allows students to access their class schedule, grades, financial aid, and payment plans while on the go. It is?available on both iOS and Android devices by visiting the App Store or Google Play and entering?“UTHealth Student”?into the search.?We invite students to take the mobile app tour, and add the app to their mobile device for important updates from central student services, and to connect with the campus today.

UTHealth Houston’s CPRIT Innovation in Cancer Prevention Research Program for undergraduates in cancer prevention is actively seeking faculty mentors. We encourage all interested faculty members to apply.
