We invite everyone in our school community to attend the 6th Annual John P. Glaser Health Informatics Society Proceedings. This year, our awardee is Marion Jokl Ball, EdD; an international innovator, educator, and author who is a proponent of health informatics and technologies that enhance health and healthcare.
The Glaser Society events will take place on Friday, Oct. 13. McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics students are invited to start the day by attending the Town Hall in the school’s three, conjoined classrooms at 9 AM (CT). Dr. Ball, along with John Glaser, PhD and Nora Cox, will participate in the Q&A event. An Outlook invite was sent to our students which includes details on this town hall and the Zoom link for virtual attendees.
The official Glaser Society Proceedings begin at 4 PM (CT) in the Institute of Molecular Medicine Building. Dr. Ball will be introduced by Dean Jiajie Zhang, PhD and Dr. Glaser before she addresses all attendees. Afterward, a reception will be held in her honor. AMIA will host its Annual Symposium in New Orleans in mid-November. Several members of the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics Community were recently recognized by AMIA and will be honored at the event.

We will host the event at Fulton Alley on Monday, Nov. 13th from 5 to 7 PM. We will provide light bites and drink tickets. Don’t forget to come prepared for some bowling fun!
The Gaining Equity in Training for Public Health Informatics and Technology (GET PHIT) Consortium is led by McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics and UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, in partnership with HBCUs, HSIs, and other university partners, and state and local public health agencies across Texas. The program is focused on reducing the nation's health inequities by expanding the number of public health professionals from underrepresented groups trained in public health informatics and technology.
GET PHIT is now accepting applications for the Spring 2024 Paid Internship Program. Students with strong interest in public health informatics and technology are encouraged to apply. The GET PHIT internship is a 160-hour part-time paid internship relevant to public health informatics. Students will receive a stipend ranging from $2,440 - $3,000 based on education and skill. Practicum credit for the internship is also an option for eligible students.
