David O. Salako

DHI Student

Bio: David is a Data Science consultant and strategic project manager with dual Masters degrees in Biomedical Informatics and Epidemiology from the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics and School of Public Health respectively. Additionally, he has trained and worked in software development as well as financial accounting. His background and focus has been on using data-enabled technologies to predict and/or identify such diseases as various cancers, malaria, schistosomiasis, and obesity. An international background, perspective, and drive have afforded David the opportunity to live and work in North America, Northern Europe, and Africa. Currently pursuing a DHI his goal is to lead a measurably beneficial translational informatics project that uses a natural language processing (NLP) system and large language models (LLM) to extract key data from clinical notes or discharge summaries. These data points aim to identify patients that are potentially at high risk for developing food insecurity and nutrition related diseases.
