Bio:Dr. W. Jim Zheng, Ph.D., MS, joined UTHealth Houston’s McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics in 2013 as an associate professor and associate director of the Center for Computational Biomedicine. With formal training in computer science and biology, he has been at the forefront of bioinformatics, having worked extensively in both industry and academia. Dr. Zheng has developed groundbreaking resources like Genome3D for visualizing genomes in 3D and Ontology Fingerprints for innovative gene representation. Furthermore, his team has been at the forefront of leveraging deep learning and AI methodologies for predicting drug combinations and conducting research on cancer treatment. As the director of the Data Science and Informatics Core for Cancer Research, he leads the core in supporting the publication of more than 100 research papers. His ongoing research, funded by renowned institutions like the NIH, is dedicated to uncovering novel strategies for disease treatment and predicting outcomes. Additionally, his work encompasses the intricate study of the human brain, underscoring his dedication to translating biomedical discoveries into clinical applications..
