AHRQ Training Program in Patient Safety and Quality

- Eligibility Requirements - U.S. Citizen / Permanent Resident
The purpose of this training program is to train future scientists to design, implement, select, and evaluate health information technology that increases the quality and safety of healthcare.
Trainees profit from interdisciplinary training from two mentors, one from human factors engineering, the other from biomedical.
Trainees receive two types of training
- coursework in informatics, research design and evaluation, human-centered design, and quality improvement.
- hands-on HIT research to increase the safety and quality of care.
Benefits for predoctoral trainees:
- 12-month fellowship
- May compete for reappointment (for a total of three years) if progress is satisfactory
- Annual stipend of $21,180 in FY11
- Partial support for tuition, fees, and health insurance
- Primary mentor/department is responsible for the remainder of the tuition, fees, and health insurance
Benefits for postdoctoral trainees:
- 12-month fellowship
- May compete for reappointment (for a total of two years) if progress is satisfactory
- Annual NIH stipend of $37,740 per year and higher in FY11
- Partial support for health insurance
- Primary mentor/department is responsible for the remainder of the stipend and health insurance
