Data Science and Informatics Core for Cancer Research Graduate Research Assistant Position

Position Description: 

A GRA position is available in the Data Science and Informatics Core for Cancer Research at McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth Houston, formerly UTHealth Houston School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI). The GRA will work with Dr. Jim Zheng to perform the following duties:

• Perform bioinformatics data analysis under the guidance of postdocs/staff in the Data Science and Informatics Core for Cancer Research
• Occasionally assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, collecting information from the core faculty
• Able to be physically present 20 hours/week at the work location at the school

Candidate must be currently enrolled in a UTHealth PhD program. Must have completed second year course work and have a solid background in statistics and programming in R. In addition, the candidate must have an interest in investigating biological systems.

Required skills for this position include proficiency with a high-level programming language (e.g., C++, Java, Python) or appropriate scripting languages (e.g., Perl). Previous experience with processing and analyzing Microarray and NGS data sets and a biology background are a plus.
