SBMI Commencement Ceremony on May 9

SBMI invites everyone in the SBMI Community to attend our Commencement Ceremony on May 9.

The school will recognize 37 graduates during the ceremony at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in the Stude Concert Hall. State Representative John Zerwas, M.D. is the commencement speaker.

The 2018-2019 SBMI Student Governance Organization officers have been elected and appointed. Congratulations to our new SGO leaders.

SBMI Scholarship Application is Open

The School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) offers scholarship opportunities to students enrolled in the School as funds become available. We are currently accepting applications for summer 2018 scholarships.

All SBMI students who are in good academic standing and enrolled for summer 2018 courses in a certificate, masters or Ph.D. program are eligible to apply.

Consideration for earning a scholarship includes:

• Pattern of academic achievement
• Teaching and mentoring experience
• Leadership experience
• Community service
• Success in overcoming adversity
• Previous and recent publications in the discipline (if any)

Changes to UTHealth Student Counseling Services

As of Apr. 2, UTHealth Student Health and Counseling Services charges insurance for visits to Student Counseling Services. This change is intended to maintain the highest quality of care and assistance for UTHealth students, while meeting the challenge of costs that continue to rise.

Student Health and Counseling Services will not charge students for their first visit to Counseling, and the staff will assist all students to make sure that they receive assistance no matter what financial constraints they may have.

The Student Health and Counseling Services staff values all UTHealth students and will work with them and their insurance providers to accommodate student counseling needs

If students have any questions or concerns, they should contact the Director of Student Counseling Services, Sudhakar Selvaraj, MBBS., DPhil (PhD, Oxon)., MRCPsych at 713 -500-5171.

SBMI Bragging Points

Members of the SBMI Community have recently achieved noteworthy accolades and we want to recognize them and applaud their accomplishments.

• Memorial Hermann was a 2017 winner of the HIMSS Nicholas E. Davies Excellence Award in the Enterprise category. SBMI alumnus and Memorial Hermann Associate Chief Medical Information Officer Anwar Mohammad Sirajuddin, MBBS, MS, CPHIMS played an instrumental role in the health system’s win.
