AHIMA names Dr. Susan Fenton a 2024 Triumph Award Winner
McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth Houston’s Vice Dean for Education, Susan H. Fenton, PhD, RHIA, ACHIP, FAHIMA, FAMIA, was named a 2024 Triumph Award winner by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Fenton was selected as the 2024 Distinguished Member which is AHIMA’s highest honor.
The Triumph Awards “recognize individuals who have made a difference in the health information profession, through building our knowledge base, or by preparing future health information professionals and encouraging fresh talent and new leadership.” Fenton has dedicated over three decades of her career to the field of health information.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive this recognition from AHIMA,” noted Fenton. “The Distinguished Member Triumph Award celebrates both my professional journey and the essential role of data and information in transforming care delivery and advancing health informatics and information management.”
Fenton has earned numerous awards and accolades from AHIMA and the Texas Health Information Management Association (TxHIMA) during her career. Fenton has been an AHIMA Fellow since 2011 and in 2012, she won an AHIMA Triumph Award for Research. In 2019, she earned the TxHIMA Legacy Award which is the association’s highest honor. This award recognizes an active member of TxHIMA who has shown exemplary leadership within the organization and has made outstanding contributions to the profession and the professional association.
“I hope my lasting impact within AHIMA is to underscore the absolute centrality of data and information to health, ensuring that every decision in healthcare is informed by accurate, reliable, and actionable data,” said Fenton.
