This advanced course is designed for doctoral students to develop and apply project management and vendor management skills within the context of healthcare information technology (IT) and applied informatics. Students will learn to design and implement comprehensive project management plans that align with organizational strategy, deliver measurable outcomes, and maintain control over time, budget, scope, and performance.
The course integrates key principles of evidence-based practice, systems analysis and design, and project management methodologies grounded defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI). In addition to core project management competencies, students will gain practical experience in managing vendors and contracts—critical components in healthcare IT project success.
Through hands-on exercises and real-world scenarios, students will learn to effectively oversee vendor relationships, negotiate and manage contracts, and establish governance structures to monitor contractual, financial, and service delivery performance. This integrated approach to project and vendor management supports improved outcomes across projects, programs, and organizational portfolios while ensuring value generation in current and future engagements.
