Job Summary: In this role, you will provides a broad range of communications support to departmental programs including writing and editing, project planning, health education/promotion activities.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD POSSESS:

  • Expertise in AP style and news writing standards
  • Desire to demonstrate and learn skills that will improve the school's communications efforts (e.g., graphic design, photography, script writing, web writing, html, etc.)
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and continuously improve communications procedures 
  • Work well in a fast-paced environment with little supervision
  • Experience working in an academic or health setting and working closely with faculty and researchers

Additional Summary Specific to Job:

  • Assembles, catalogs, and archives information derived from online research, interviews, and printed material.
  • Generates ideas for communications and develops and/or influences the development of high quality, creative materials benefiting SBMI.
  • Writes news/feature articles for publication, inclusive of print and online media; develops publications for the school.
  • Writes blogs, prepares media kits, writes select web content, and maintains the school's social media sites.
  • Works with UTHealth Public Affairs to uphold brand standards, pitch stories internally and externally, and develop art/photography to accompany news.
  • Collaborates with SBMI Dean's Office team members to address communications and design needs.
  • Assists with coordinating Dean's Office events and assists periodically with photographing these events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field or relevant experience in lieu of education with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.

DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge of or facility:

  • HTML and other coding languages
  • Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver (to create invitations and announcements, retouch photos, design UTHealth home page sliders and SBMI web banners, and code newsletters)
  • Professional photography equipment
  • Video scripting and production
  • Web content management systems
  • Search engine optimization and writing web content
  • Social media sites

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
