Job Summary:

  • Manages the research agenda for the program, focused on informatics and modeling in emergency cardiovascular medicine. Currently there are over 12 distinct, complex projects which need program management.
  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of a portfolio of complex grant-funded projects, and provides supervision and guidance to the research personnel. Research personnel will include post-docs, graduate research assistants, and statistician.
  • Facilitates collaboration between researchers and clinicians on the research projects (including cardiologists, emergency medicine, and EMS physicians in the Houston Fire Department). The collaboration also includes cardiologists and emergency physicians nationally, at premier academic medical centers across the country. The external collaboration also includes the American Heart Association, the National Cardiovascular Disease Registry, and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
  • Ability to integrate, model, analyze, and report on national databases and performance standards for cardiovascular diseases across the country.
  • Assists with the annual budget, negotiates grants and contracts, reports on progress and authorizes expenditures. New grant proposals are being submitted quarterly, which will require assistant in development, budget preparation, and management across multiple institutions.
  • Informs principal investigator of key activities, timelines, and progress reports. Grant charts and project planning across multiple programs is extremely important.
  • Assists in grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. May work closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of grants.
  • Will conduct both training and program evaluations for the grant stakeholders. Evaluations of the national programs are due quarterly to funding agencies.
  • Manages on-going strategic plans for the PI's research portfolio.
  • Communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes. Prepares/makes oral presentations at professional meetings. May also participate in committees as deemed appropriate for the department.
  • Manages Humans Resources activities or gives direct input for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the department.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in science or a health administration related field.

Five years of applicable experience.

  • Advanced level grant writing skills.
  • Depending on research may require Clinical Research Coordinator certification.
  • May require program specific certifications.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
