Work-Centered Design of Care Process Improvements in HIT

SHARPC Leaders: Jiajie Zhang, Muhammad Walji, Amy Franklin

The purpose of Project 1 is to develop short-term quick-fix tools and long-term breakthroughs for HIT usability and workflow challenges.

  • Developing methods and tools to quickly identify and prioritize critical usability problems in HIT.
  • Developing a unified framework of EHR usability – TURF (Task, User, Function, Representation) for defining, measuring, evaluating, removing, and designing EHR usability.
  • Developing a software suite – TURF – that semi-automates usability evaluation.
  • Developing a set of comprehensive guidelines for designing EHR with good usability.
