Fall 2022 Course Registration Reminder

The Office of Academic Affairs would like to remind all SBMI students that regular registration for fall 2022 closes on Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. CDT. Late registration is from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2. Late fees will be assessed so remember to register before that deadline to avoid paying any additional fees.

The fall semester begins on Monday, Aug. 29 so we encourage all students who have not enrolled to do so as soon as possible. For the full semester calendar, please visit the SBMI Academic Calendar.

SBMI Bragging Points

Several members of the SBMI Community have recently earned special recognition or contributed to the informatics community. We want to congratulate those individuals on these accomplishments.

  • Professor Cui Tao, PhD has been awarded a grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The grant is worth over $3.6 million, and Dr. Tao & her research colleagues will focus on crafting a vaccine knowledge base.
  • Assistant Professor and Alumna Laila Rasmy Bekhet, PhD ’21, MS ‘17 and Professor Degui Zhi, PhD, MS recently earned a new grant supplement. The funds will be used to help the researchers conduct phenotyping and genetic study on neurological complications of long-term COVID-19 patients suffer from.
  • Professor Dean Sittig, PhD and Adjunct Professor Hardeep Singh, MD, MPH wrote a new JAMIA article that was published recently.

Distance Education Announcements & Reminders for Fall 2022

The fall 2022 semester will start on August 29, 2022. Course Add/Drop via myUTH will run from August 29 to September 14, 2022. Please refer to the academic calendar for other important dates as well as events. Course offerings and classroom information can be found on the semester schedule page. Textbook information is posted at: Textbook-List.

Courses added in myUTH may take up to 24 hours to appear in Canvas. For questions about Canvas course enrollment and access, please contact the SBMI Distance Education team at [email protected]. To complete required coursework at SBMI, students must ensure that their computer meets the technical requirements.

Students enrolled for in-person/on-campus classes should attend each weekly class session at SBMI's building space (6th floor of 7000 Fannin Street, Houston, TX 77030). The TMC Library Liaison librarian Travis Holder will continue to serve SBMI users and hold online office hours on Tuesday afternoons, from 1-3 PM (CDT), using this link Zoom Link.
