Student Success: Funding & Opportunities

Funding your graduate education is an important consideration for all students. With this webpage, McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics (MSBMI) aims to provide information and resources for financial opportunities within the school, our university, and beyond.

MSBMI offers certain scholarships to doctoral students during the admissions process. These types of scholarships are given automatically and do not require submission of a scholarship application.

MSBMI also provides scholarship opportunities to all students enrolled in the school, as funds become available. These types of awards require submission of an application, which is open twice during the academic year.

Application Cycles

  • Fall scholarship application opens: June to July
  • Spring scholarship application opens: November to December

Note: Specific dates vary from year to year. Current students are notified by email when the application is open.

All awards are based on academic merit and specific scholarship criteria. Students are evaluated for each scholarship based on their submitted application.

Current McWilliams students in good academic standing in our certificate, MS, or doctoral programs are eligible to apply when the application cycle is open/active. Note that current students are defined as active McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics students who have completed at least one course in their current academic program.

Consideration for earning a scholarship from our school includes, but is not limited, to these factors:

  • Pattern of academic achievement (GPA, semester credit hours (SCH) completed, etc.)
  • Teaching and mentoring experience
  • Leadership experience at the school and/or in the informatics community
  • Community service
  • Success in overcoming adversity
  • Previous and recent publications in the discipline
  • Specific interest or skills in certain informatics fields/areas of study

Several lists of scholarships are provided below. If students have questions about an award or the application process for MSBMI scholarships, please contact the Office of Academic Affairs at [email protected].
