Dr. Wankun Deng joined MSBMI, McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, UTHealth, University of Texas Health in February of 2023, after three years of post-doctoral research in RNA dynamics in Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia/University of Pennsylvania. For almost a decade, he has been using bioinformatics and machine learning to explore the inherent biological mechanisms that regulate various processes. His long-term interest is unveiling biological regulations with systematically interpreting of complex biological data.

During his PhD training, he focused on integration of post-translational modification (PTM) knowledge, as well as developing novel algorithm to predict and interpret biological regulation through PTM in autophagy and various biological pathways. In his post-doctoral training, he aimed at recovering regulation of RNA by m6A modification and RNA binding proteins (RBPs). Later, he joined SBMI, aiming at tracing complex trait in neurodegenerative disease through integrative analysis of multi-omics data. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, in 2017.
