Erika M. Cavazos-Juarez, DHI, MBBS, MS, PMP, is an experienced healthcare professional with expertise in clinical informatics, quality management, regulatory compliance, grant administration, and public health initiatives. She holds a Doctorate in Health Informatics and Master of Science in Applied Biomedical Informatics from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and a medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico. Currently, she serves as the Director of the Regional Campus Laredo at UTHealth Houston McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics (MSBMI). In this role, Cavazos-Juarez has been pivotal in designing and implementing professional development sessions and educational programs related to health information technology (HIT) for various community stakeholders in South Texas. She joined MSBMI in September 2022 as the Laredo Regional Campus Director and became an assistant professor in the Clinical and Health Informatics Department in 2025. Previously, Cavazos-Juarez held the position of Quality Management Director at an acute care facility in South Texas, where she spearheaded regulatory compliance and quality improvement initiatives, including oversight of the Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Interventions) and the Primary Stroke Center (PSC) programs. Furthermore, she has served as Chief of Health Education, Chief of Public Health Nutrition, and Director of the City of Laredo Public Health Department's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Cavazos-Juarez has successfully led the implementation of various HIT systems, including telemedicine, electronic health records (EHR), and Customer Relationship Management applications, across public and private healthcare sectors.
