Head shot of Eric J. Thomas Since 1992 Dr. Thomas has conducted research on patient safety and his work was heavily cited in the Institute of Medicine's landmark report on medical error. Drs. Thomas’ current research focuses on diagnostic errors, measuring safety culture, measuring and improving teamwork, and the use of health information technology improve quality and safety. He also serves as the Chancellor’s Health Fellow for Patient Safety for The University of Texas System and leads UT System efforts regarding disclosure of errors, and a quality and safety grants program. At UT Houston and Memorial Hermann Hospital he Co-Directs a program to teach physicians and other caregivers how to conduct quality improvement initiatives. In 2007 he received the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award for Research from the National Quality Forum and Joint Commission.
